I just purchased the H2 Zoom, which sounds like a smaller Hummer , but is a great , versatile recorder .I have yet to discover half of its features .The recorded sound is very very good .I know it was reviewed on BHO and recall that I agreed with the author.I first saw it in a nice full article in Acoustic Guitar .The editors were very impressed .
Genrally the street price is 200$ -I checked pretty many places , even Ebay.

I've been using The Flip since Christmas... It's compact, well setup, not very expensive and produces very nice quality video and excellent quality sound for playback on your PC or other device or to post directly to YouTube. Very handy. ( http://www.theflip.com/ )

I use a very small (fits in your shirt pocket) Olympus digital recorder. It will interface with your PC and allow you to download everything you've recorded. It's small but very powerful. I've used it in band camp situations where there's a room full of students and the instructor is across the room and it still sounds great. I've used it in faculty concert situations where I was way back from the stage and it worked fine. It is a little pricey -- over $100 but for me, it was well worth the price.

Another vote for the Zoom H2. With a 2GB sandisk it will capture about 17hrs of high quality sound in MP3 format. I didn't realize how good the quality was until I listened through a set a headphones.

It does eat up batteries quicky so rechargables are probably a good idea if you can't plug it in while recording your lesson or jam.
