Ok, I'm shopping for an RK R80, and have the same quotes from both Elderly and Angiesbanjo. I read some reviews from Elderly here on the hangout, but nothing related to instruments, and didn't see any reviews posted on Angie's. Any suggestions or things to consider?

I don't have any experience with Angiesbanjo, but Elderly is one of the best places to buy instruments that I know of.

I've dealt repeatedly with Janet Davis, Elderly, FQMS, and others (not Angies to date) and have had mostly positive experiences, but Elderly has most consistently provided the best customer service on all counts.

I've dealt with all the above AND Angiesbanjo -- and Angie is a good, honest businesswoman. I'd not hesitate to purchase anything at all from her.

So, just decide which you'd rather use -- I think you'll be more than satisfied with either Elderly or Angiesbanjo -- it's your call.

I have the best idea for you,if your going to buy a RK banjo call Cliff Fitch! He is the RK wizard! He sets each one up to play & sound it's very best before he ships it
out of his shop.I am sure JDM & Elderly are both great stores to do business with.But why not have an expert treat you to the best bang for your buck?

I'll second that...Even if the price was higher i'd still buy from Cliff. Atleast you will know that your banjo is the best it can be when you get it.

I bought a RK-80 from Angie, and will second what Texasbanjo said. BUT.. If I were to but another, I'd go to either Cliff or Wyatt Fawley in a heartbeat

Both Angie and Elderly are honest companies to deal with and both will bend over backwards to see that you are satisfied. Either one will have it set up when you get it.

I bought a lightly used RB4 from Cliff several years ago. The man is wonderful to deal with. Mine was a purchase that was shipped to Canada and Cliff was so attentive, concerned that I got it one peice. He packed it alike a fresh egg!!! I wouldn't hesitate to buy anything off Cliff sight unseen because he has something I value above all else...Honesty. I have also dealt with Elderly and JD and the rest for parts but if I was buying a`banjo, Cliff would be my number A1 choice....

I bought a banjo from Angie last December, and had no problems at all with the sale. I was completely satisfied.

She didn't have it in stock, though- delivery was good, but the banjo came straight from Gold Tone. Elderly probably keeps more stock on hand, if that makes any difference- I'm sure my banjo wouldn't have arrived any sooner from either dealer.

Have dealt with both and have nothing bad to say about either organization. Most of my business is with Elderly but it is only an 1 and 1/2 hour drive from my house. Both organizations have treated me with respect, consideration and courtesy: I would not hesitate to recommend either. By the way, welcome to the Hangout!

You might also check with Paul at The Banjo Hut. I recnetly bought a new banjo from him and every thing went smooth as silk. I called him on a Friday and had it in my hands by the following Wednesday set up, tuned and ready to go right out of the case.

Well folks, the deal is done, and I have an RK-80 in my possession! I ended up getting it from Lynwood Lunsford at Draper music -- he's just a half-hour away from me, and I just felt comfortable knowing him a little bit and wanted to support a local musician and shop owner. Thanks to everyone for all your advice...even though I didn't necessarily follow it, lol!

Not so much of a story, but lots of begging and kissing up. Oh, and telling her I wouldn't buy any power tools this year, and she could skip buying me birthday and Christmas gifts this year! Kind of like making a deal with the devil. She's giving me the silent treatment right now.....

But I have a new banjo!
