Here's what happened to me 2 days ago. I put my 2 week-old beautiful bluegrass banjo - the first one I've owned with a real tone ring, nice inlay - on the guitar stand and walked away. The problem was that my foot had slipped into the strap and so with my first step I yanked it forward, off the stand and - SMACK!! - it hit the floor face down with the most heart breakingly perfect sound. I walked out of the room, shut the door and couldn't bring myself to go in and check it out. After about an hour I finally picked it up and ... no damage whatsoever. Unbelievable.
Anyway, I thought it might be cathartic for people to post their own stories of tragic mishaps. What's the worst thing that ever happened to your banjo?

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
