Tony Ellis' banjo playing is warm and soulful but also capable of intricate technical speed and skill. " Farewell My Home" is full of tunes that display these qualities. Tony is accompanied by his son, Bill on guitar who adds the perfect compliment to his dad's style. Just listen to " Rain on the Water" or " Snowcamp" and you'll hear the banjo and guitar intertwining almost like one instrtument. On " Merrywang" Tony manages to get plenty of depth and warmth out of his banjo while at the same time, playing fast and clean high-speed phrases. Tony plays "stories" on his banjo and the listener is taken along on some wonderful journeys. The title track, " Farewell My Home" is just plain beautiful and tender. "The Hangman's Song" is haunting in it's sparse yet graceful feel on Tony's solo banjo. All of Tony's albums, QUAKER GIRL, DIXIE BANNER, and THE QUEST are great collections of Tony's mixture of old-time and three finger playing. Each one is a must have for music lovers and FAREWELL MY HOME should be included in anyone's collection.
