Overall Comments

I'm a novice banjo player who needed a cost effective way to keep from disturbing others in the house.  I used the Banjo Hangout site to identify vendors. The web site at Mikes_mute@yahoo.com was excellent. Site videos showed how to correctly attach the mute to a banjo, and hear how the mute performs.  When I telephoned the vendor for more information, my call was taken by the owner - Mr. Mike Stidd <mikes_mute@yahoo.com>. Mr. Stidd answered all my questions quickly and even resolved a technical problem I had making payment. I received my standard mute (there is another model for banjos with curved fingerboards) in about 5 days. My mute arrived in a small cloth bag. I was immediately impressed with the workmanship of the mute which is composed of finely machined brass, aluminum, and nylon parts that should last indefinitely. Installation takes about 30 seconds. Bottom Line:  My banjo mute performs as advertised. It reduces the sound of my 22 fret banjo (with the resonator in place) to a level equivalent to an acoustic guitar. I have not experienced any buzzing or after tones. All frets work fine. The mute does not appear to affect height of strings above the neck. After attaching the mute, only slight adjustments to my tuning were required. The owner's professionalism, good humor, and desire to provide the right product were exemplary.
