Bridges: Purcell Old Flooring Bridge

I was a little apprehensive about trying a different bridge on my Stelling Crusader because I was very happy with my roasted one. Well......I was pleasantly surprised.  Tim's "Old Flooring" bridge really brought a beautiful timbre in my banjo. It reminded me of espresso, bold dark, resonant, yet with clarity and the right "ghosts" (my term) up the neck. If you are a little frustrated with overtones and brightness, this may be the way to go. Give it some time, I installed mine, played for a few minutes and went to bed. The next day, BAM! it hit me as a totally different banjo. I lack the proper vocabulary to describe the tone, but I liked it. Worked really well in D tuning as well. If you are itching to try something different, this bridge may be the new voicing you are looking for. Definitely worth a try.

Ron Coleman

I had Ron do a very austere mahogany neck and finish a RK resonator to match for a "budget" banjo that I could take to jams and not worry too much about. We used a Sullivan pot assembly and a mixture of other parts. The neck has a nice slim profile. The frets are straight and level. The heel to pot assembly is very solid.

Overall the project came out very well. Ron genuinely wants you to be happy with what you get. Tell him exactly what you want and he will do his very best to deliver.  The project was completed in a reasonable amount of time at a very reasonable price. Ron was always available via phone or email for questions and opinions. He regularly sent photos of important milestones during the work.

Ron is a great guy to deal with and will treat you like an old friend. I am very happy with the finished product.

Bridges: Purcell Red Maple bridge

Very nice "no-sag" Red Maple 5/8" bridge with ebony top. Classic combination because I wanted a traditional sound with good balance up and down the neck. I emailed Tim for a recommendation and he was quick to respond. Had a notch added to compensate the 3rd string a little bit, and this was done for no additional charge.  On my banjo it helped bring out some of the mids' that I thought were there but hadn't quite been able to bring out. Great tone, volume, and sustain. Would recommend to anyone looking to try a new bridge at a very reasonable price.
