Compared to some of the other beginner/low end banjos I've played around with, I think this one sounds great (for the price). I have the burled maple and it sounds bright and has some volume.

The banjo was setup by the banjohut. I bought it used, but it was unplayed. The action was set very low/fast. After about 2 months, I started to get string buzz which I got fixed for about $18 (truss rod adjustment). I found it easy to play/learn on.

It's a nice looking banjo. Mine's the burled maple and it has a nice finish. Personally, I think it has a look and feel of some of the more expensive banjos I've played with at shops.

It all seems nice a sturdy to me. Nothing feels too cheap.

For the price, this is a great banjo. If you want an entry level resonator banjo, the price and quality are hard to beat.

I've seen Mark 4 times now (at Boulevard Music in Culver City) and really enjoy his teaching. He's VERY patient and encouraging, but also able to give constructive criticism.
He's given me some great practice tips (something I wasn't very good at). I'm still a beginner, so I can only comment on his ability to work with me at my level -- and in that regard he's great.
