Armrests: Dr. Arm

I recently bought my first banjo - an Ozark 2099G resonator - and I’ve been looking for weeks for an armrest.

I’ve discovered that the Ozark 2099G is quite an unusual configuration. It’s an 11-inch, 16-bracket design, but it doesn’t seem to fit any of the armrests on the market. Even armrests that are labelled as ‘universal’ - such as the ‘Gold Tone Banjo Armrest Fits All 11” or 12” rims with 16, 18 or 24 brackets’ - didn’t fit.

I tried a variety of specialty banjo retailers - in the UK and the US - and they all advised me that there was nothing on the market that would work.

And then I came across Banjolit. I emailed to ask if they thought there was an armrest that would fit my Ozark and Richard, the founder and CEO, replied that he was sure that the Dr Arm Banjo GT armrest would.

I ordered it immediately on back order and it arrived promptly in three weeks as promised.

And yes, it does fit!

I’ll be completely honest and say that it did take me a couple of hours of tinkering to get it to fit. But I sincerely believe that is more about the uniqueness of the Ozark design than anything to do with the Dr Arm armrest. Once I realised that I needed to bend the armrest clips with pliers to fit the tension hoop, it fit securely and snugly!

It's an attractive and well-constructed armrest and I think it really adds a stylish flourish to what is, admittedly, a solid and serviceable but rather inexpensive banjo.

And most importantly of all, it is extremely comfortable!

I highly recommend Banjolit - and I recommend the Dr Arm Banjo GT armrest for any other players with an Ozark 2099G resonator out there. If you need some advice on fitting the armrest, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

That's how I found out about Mike's Banjo Mute - and I am very glad that I did!

I highly recommend this for anyone who wants to minimise annoying their significant other or neighbours ??

What a great device! Effective, very well constructed and VERY easy to use.

My Banjolit banjo trainer arrived a few days ago and I’m still getting used to using it, but it truly is a wonderful tool.

I’m an absolute banjo novice and I can already tell how useful it’s going to be for learning rolls.

I’ve read some comments elsewhere complaining that you can’t tune the trainer but I’m not sure that’s true. But I also don’t think that it’s actually essential to tune it. For me, it’s much more about training my fingers and thumb to do what I need them to do.

I also have to say that it’s a beautifully made piece of kit!
