Sound

Last night was the first time I got to mike my new Kentucky and play it outside of the studio. WHOW, she was clean to the ear and a powerhouse in everyway. I was amazed at how well it handled in working conditions. Everytime I play this banjo I am amazed at the craftmenship that went into building it and the pride that only Frank and Ricky put into every banjo.

Frank Neat Banjo's
Monday, July 27, 2009 @6:57:09 AM

I have personally known Frank Neat for now going on thirty years. I started going to visit and have him work on my banjo's since I was 15 years old. His work throught out the years has always been top notch in the world of Bluegrass. Frank has seen me go threw a lot of banjo's over the years, none of which were his. I was always looking for that certain sound that I could never find. That prewar sound of the early Earl Scruggs and the volume of Ralph Stanley.

On July 23 2009, I went to visit Frank and see what he mite have in banjo's. I was on the market again and was tired of not finding that special banjo that you just fall in love with from the moment you pick it up. So it was to Russell Springs for the day for me.

Frank had several banjo's at his shop for me to pick on. All of them played great and sounded wonderful. The workmanship in each one was above and beyond any factory banjo. The detail that goes into each banjo stands out like a morning sunrize on a spring day. And then I played the Maple Kentucky.

Never before have I played a more powerful banjo. I knew my search for that prewar sound and tone was over. This banjo had everything I could ask for in one package. Great volume for jamming, wonderful tone for recording and the looks and appeal found only in a Neat banjo. Yes, I brought her home and I couldn't be more pleased. After knowing Frank for thirty years I now own and play one of his banjo's. I guess I will still use my old Gibson for teaching but, when I play out the Kentucky is going with me from now on.

If anyone is interested in a Frank Neat banjo he can be reached at, 270-866-4515

Frank also has his own line of strings out for banjo's and they are really great.

Keep on pick'in,
