I have heard a lot of great things about this mute so I had to try it for myself. I have a Deering Goodtime Special. I want to use my picks but still keep the peace in the house. To me, the difference in volume is significantly different. It sounds like a soft guitar as opposed to the rich loud sound.
Installation involves loosening the screws and placing the mute along the bridge with the prongs towards the head of the banjo. Once tightened, this is as stable as a factory part.
Shipping was fast, as mine came by USPS Priority Mail. It had a nice drawstring bag to keep it from getting scratched.
It is a highly effective accessory to keep the volume down, but still allow you to practice with picks.
Highly recommend this.

I have a Deering Goodtime Special banjo. I wanted an arm rest that was more comfortable and added a classic look to my banjo. Installation involved removing the resonator (4 screws) and the J-hooks. Mine has an 11 inch head. The armrest is fully adjustable and installed without a problem.
This rest added much needed comfort and gave me a more optimal arm and wrist position for picking.
There ain't none better, in my humble opinion.
