Gibson  1927 TB-3 Arch Top conversion Banjo Reviews

Submitted by fireshark254 (see all reviews from this person) on 11/4/2006

Where Purchased: Gruins

Year Purchased: 2006
Price Paid: 5000.00 ($US) (bought USED)

Sound

Sounds great. It sounds like Ralph Stanleys banjo. A little weak on the low tones...but boy does it ring!! Not suited for playing lightly. Playing hard really drives out the sound from this arch top.

Sound Rating: 8

Setup

Was set up when I got it. Banjo was reworked and set up by Robin Smith before I purchased it.

Setup Rating: 10

Appearance

Looks just as a 80 year old Mastertone should. Has a little fade on finish. No cracks or dents.

Appearance Rating: 9

Reliability

Works good. I use it everytime our group plays. I treat it like a fragile piece of china.

Reliability Rating: 10

Customer Service

My buddy Charlie Cushman hooked me up with this banjo. Charlie is the ONLY person I will allow to work on my banjos. A good friend and always there when I need him.

Customer Service: 10

Components

100% original with exception of 5th string neck. I have the original TB-3 neck.

Components Rating: 10

Overall Comments

This banjo is priceless and rare. 1927 Arch Tops are hard to come by. This banjo is never left unattended. The best pre-war I have played. Probably the last mastertone I will buy.

Overall Rating: 10
