This is a well thought out, accurate tool to make head tension adjustments. This gauge does all the thinking for you, when all three points are contacting the head you are at a G#, A quarter turn either way will get you another half step either way. This is a very easy way to make adjustments to tension weither it be a periodic check or making a minor adjustment when changing to a different bridge, as I find a different weight/material bridge needs a little head adjustment for the best sound. Steve is a craftsman, and weither its this gauge or one of his great bridges, I highly recomend dealing with him. Note: The present design of this gauge will not read a Rennaisance style head on a BG banjo as they have a different deflection. I find his straight edge/coin method to work great, with a snug penny rather than a quarter.
