Tab Request for a Newbie - BIRDBRAIN by Jamie Paige (also a few others)

Hello there! I'm just starting with playing the banjo, and I really want nothing more than to play some of my favorite songs on it. I listen to a lot of vocal synth music by artists like Eggtan, Camilla, etc. so those are the things I want to play the most!! Jamie Paige however is my #1 favorite producer in the scene, and I'd really love to play my favorite song by her, which is Birdbrain. But vocal synth music is fairly niche, and whats even more niche is someone wanting to do banjo covers of them, so it's hard to find tabs for specific songs even in a community like that one thats built on freely sharing resources. Because of that, I'm reaching out here! I'd really like if I could get some beginner friendly tabs for it if anybody is willing to help :]

I don't have a very strong preference on play style as I don't really play anything in specific yet, but I've got my banjo tuned the standard way and I use a 5-string open back! Specifically the AC-1 from Gold Tone. I do want to learn both clawhammer and bluegrass picking, but I think it'd be fun to learn to play a bunch of different ways! A Japanese banjo player who does covers for video game music I really like tends to swap between clawhammer and bluegrass mid-song so I'd like to learn different ways to play and try and do something similar! All of that to say: I'm open to learning whatever! Feel free to play how you'd like, just let me know what style it's in and make it beginner friendly please!

I'm okay with it being a bit challenging, ideally it'd take me maybe a bit over a month to learn with regular practice given the level I'm at right now. Once I get the fundamentals down I'll learn faster, but I'm at the very beginning and I'd like a song to work on between things I learn to play in lessons to keep me excited. Kind of like drawing stuff for art class vs sketching silly things in your notebook. I'll work on training my ear so that one day I can just play whatever I want for fun!! Since the song has no banjo sections, the key it's in is D major according to Song Key Finder, I hope that helps when banjo tuning isn't super relevant.

In addition to Birdbrain, I'd also like tabs for the following songs if someone wants to tackle them! Or if you'd still like to help and just don't like Birdbrain enough to wanna do that one, here's other options! I know what I want to learn is pretty atypical considering the crowd here and what's normally played on banjo, but I've been really inspired by the banjo player I mentioned before to just play what I like instead of worrying about anything else. Not to say I don't like bluegrass, vocal synth music has just shaped me a lot as a person since I was really little and learning to play them feels like a way to honor that.

  • She Said I'm Gloomy by Nouvelle Story - F# Major [this is an instrumental and doesnt use vocal synths, I just love this song very much]
  • Candy by r906 - G Major
  • Dance Delightful by Jamie Paige - F# Major
  • Lowfi Heartbit by PowaPowaP, covered by MioDioDavinci - A# Major

Most of these songs are fairly high-pitched, especially considering whats normally posted here, so feel free to pitch them down to fit in the standard tuning of a normal 5 string! Later on I'll likely mess around with my banjo's tuning more, but for now I just wanna keep it simple :]

Also, if anyone sees "AI" get mentioned when looking up the songs, I'll provide additional context if needed, but the tldr of it is that yes there are some vocal synth programs that use machine learning but it's not the same kind that you're thinking of and none of it is stealing from artists. The two programs that do use unethical machine learning models and their users are shunned by the wider vocal synth community.

Even Bela Fleck learned the basics of Scruggs style bluegrass banjo before branching out to other genres.
I heartily advise you to do the same.
You wont be sorry
