When we sell a Banjo on the Hangout classifieds, we kind of hope that a hangout member will buy it, they have an identity here, it kind of eases anxiety over scammers. If someone contacts you about your ad on Banjo Barn from what I understand they don't have to be a Hangout member. Feels less secure. Last time I had someone interested in my Banjo it turned into a 2 party (middleman)overseas not clear communication. I was uncomfortable it felt like a Scam, I didn't do it. Are scams at an all-time high these days? or am I just being too old and Leary.
I sold a banjo to an individual who wasn’t on the hangout . He said he saw the banjo on another site . We talked . We met and I’ll be John Brown … sorry to all the John Browns . Anyway this fellow was extremely helpful . He took the resonator off he did all the talking and knew how to talk . Long story short I let this yahoo beat the brakes clean off me . The banjo turned out to be nothing it was supposed to be. All of this is 100% on me . That-said I was Leary of him because he wasn’t on the hangout . Lesson learned. Educate y’all’s selfs on the instrument you’re buying so this doesn’t happen to you. Best of luck
We definitely have a lot of spammers trying to join the Hangout. They are usually locked out the day they join. I check new members every morning and a couple of times during the day. Occasionally one will slip by the mods and a member will post an admin report so we can recheck and lock.
If they are not members of the Hangout, there is no way we can check them out. So..... caveat emptor .... Buyer Beware. Do your due diligence and check them out closely.
