Wasn't sure where to post this...seems good either way.
One of Maine's most revered boat designer/builders is a gentleman by the name of Ralph Stanley.
One of the prettiest and most sea-worthy designs of her day.
My 32' Jarvis Newman lobster boat was the fiberglas version (#5 of the initial batch of 66) extra heavy "Classic" model.
Fold away cleats, large glassed in catch basin under the diesel and finished off nicely down forward.

This was my last lobster boat and the one I had to sell in 2009.
Broke my heart to lose her. What a boat!

Nice song. The percussionist and the accordion player must have been doubling up operating the cameras.

The wharf sitting on top of my boat's stem was Gramp's (that I helped build around 1964) and later became mine.
Same wharf in my homepage.

I was a kid in Southwest Harbor when Ralph and Jarvis were in their prime.
I didn't know them but I did know the Rich brothers and their kids.
My dad was a close friend of Bobby, who lived in Bernard (Bass Harbor), Roger lived just around the corner on Clark Point Road, and his twin, Ronald, lived next door to us on Herrick Road. All those fellas built a lot of fine boats, and we went to a lot of fun launchings.
Thanks for nudging my memory, Steve.

I've played at a few launchings,Tim.
We played at Billings for the new boat for the Monhegan runs, the Elizabeth Ann.
We used to have lobster boat races where they'd hire a local mechanic like George Davis or Cappy Thompson to hover over the motor with a dwell/tach and a timing light while racing to wring every knot they could find.
Oldsmobile and Cadillac power won lots of races.
Gramp's 1951 Rockland Boat 30 footer got repowered in '63 to a 394 Olds and she did an honest 25 knots with that refresh.Originally built with a Chrysler Crown flathead.
