Very well made, there appears to be writing on side of dowel, but it is faint. Lens Scan says SS Stewart made,
but the hook nuts look a little different from the ones on my Thoroughbred. Please let me know your thoughts, opinions?

Better shot of dowel, possible faint writing.

Whatever “lens scan” is, is wrong.

That peghead is sometimes associated with J. B. Schall, but the problem arises that Shall seems to have sold as many parts and complete banjos.

Upon a second look, the neck has some elements that are not consistent with what it is trying to imply. I’m thinking that it might be a somewhat modern neck or rebuilt neck using old inlays attached to a low end rim.

Check on the top of the dowel stick with a small mirror. I have seen many time that the dowel stick is installed upside down so any makers mark is not showing.

Built by Lyon & Healy. Seen a few labeled "Mystic", others unmarked.

Andy, is the “volute” common?
