I recently acquired a 1923 Vega Regent banjo. I was a little confused by the tone ring. Is this what the " little wonder" tone ring looks like? It has the outer sleeve too. I don't recall seeing the wavy ring. I always thought it was just the round rod with the sleeve over top.
The "wavy ring" is not an original Vega part. Looks like the rim was modified with a rabbit to have a place for the wavy ring to live.
I recommend you put the outer sleeve back on and enjoy the modified banjo as is.
