I've always been curious about the deering skyntone head, but the $50 price tag has always deterred me. Today I noticed that you can buy the non-deering-branded skyntone head for way cheaper. Has anyone tried one of these? I didn't dive into the inter-webs too deeply, so I'm not sure about head size and crown height availability. I did a quick search in the archives but only found posts about how the deering head sounds, and nothing about the cheaper Remo unbranded heads. What say you, oh mighty internet- wielding banjoists?

I believe the 11" dia. .011" thick Skin Tone banjo head is made by Remo for Deering. Remo also makes a Skyntone drum head.

I just looked through my Remo OEM price list and saw no Skyntone banjo heads. I did see Skyntone drum heads on the list. That leads me to believe either Deering has an exclusive on that film as a banjo head, or no other distributor or manufacturer sees the necessity to add more Remo heads to their inventory. I stock 269 different Remo heads. I think that's enough.

.Remo doesn't make an 11" drum head and the crowns of the Remo 12" banjo heads and the 12" Remo drum heads appear to be the same: ie Low [3/8"], Medium [7/16"], and High [1/2"], but I don't know if they are interchangeable

Skyntone heads from Remo. I have about 50 of them. Here’s a banjo guitar I’m currently making
