I met Don at the Englishtown Music Hall in New Jersey around 50 years ago when my band Watershed opened for Don and the White Oak Mountain Boys. I still remember how gracious and friendly he was. We were talking after the show and I said something to the effect that I admired the way he played bluegrass. Don replied, “Bluegrass? That’s Bill Monroe. I play country music."
We were lucky to have Don as an Emcee for the Thomas Point festival.
His site was right behind the stage and that is where everybody wanted to go jam after the show.
He welcomed everybody and gave them all chances to shine.
That was awesome!
