Nutshell: not that it should surprise anyone, but this is now the largest P&I (Protection and Indemnity - a specialized risk pool for commercial shipping) in history. Reserves now exceed $2.8 billion. The previous biggest pool was a billion for the Costa Concordia accident.
In related news, the new bridge is finally under construction, and is currently slated to open in late 2030.
