A fellow [part of the "local colour"] in the district where I grew up was known as Joe Bologna.   [I think was in my late teens before I heard his real last name.]  Apparently one night he, and a few of his buddies, broke into a rail car [during the depression] and stole some food.  Story goes that the others picked up a variety of stuff, but Joe took an armful of bologna [full bungs, natural casing, back then].

Anyhow... that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
