I have a friend that is wanting to sell a Whyte Laydie Tenor Pot with a neck he made. He is a very competent luthier and has built guitars and other banjo necks. He is not a nationally known name. The neck does not have a truss rod and was done more than 30yrs ago before he matured in his craft and is maybe a B grade job. It plays nice and sounds good. What is a fair price range to offer him for this banjo? It has been hanging for a long time and is in need of a good cleaning, has a skin head that is in good shape but with no case. Thankyou for your help.
Your description falls short. Is the neck a 5-string? Scale length? Straight and the frets unworn? Pot description? What size? Bracket band? Style of the neck? Above all—pictures. Sale value depends on all that. Used openbacks have nose-dived in price in the last couple of years so it’s hard to say without the details.
