Hello all,
I recently was given this 1920’s Vega Vegaphone Professional (at least that’s what the dowel rod says). Serial No. 76385. Please see attached photos.
It’s not in great shape - it needs a neck replacement (I don’t play tenor, also bogus 5th string job), and some hardware replacements such as new flanges and nuts, new tailpiece and bridge and a new head.
My first question is, is such a banjo worth restoring to play or is it even feasible? I’m game if it’s worth it to produce a great sounding banjo, but not wanting to spend over $1000. I also have no experience with these.
Second, if it is worth putting some time, money and effort into restoring, where would I go about getting the hardware?
Third, do you have any recommendations for a maker still doing necks for these things?

Hello, you have a low end "jobber" banjo rim attached to an orphaned Vega tenor neck, likely leftover from a "conversion".
Basically, you have a Vega tenor neck that has no "value" (there are a lot of these from conversions). And a low end rim that also has very little value ($50 or so). The hex brackets are generally found on banjos made to the lowest price point.

Thanks. I thought it looked weird looking at comparison pictures. Basically worthless and not worth working on.
