Hi all. About 7 years ago I bought on impulse and because it sounded so good a Style A 5 string paramount banjo. I personally from looking at forums believe it’s an original 5 string, but would like views of you more experienced guys (and gals)
Why I think its original
Serial no on rim and neck stamped are the same -11526, so I believe it’s 1928
It has 22 frets
5th string peg head looks same age, shape , colour
Binding along neck near 5th fret is seamless, doesn’t look altered or changed
Fitting of 5th string peg looks very neatly done
I have seen a few Paramount A 5 strings offered for sale over the decades. I could count them on one hand though. It has diamonds inlaid in the fingerboard, correct? It is thought Gibson borrowed the Paramount diamond inlay (among other things) for their 1925 Style 3 Mastertone.
How close does it match up with this one from an old Reverb ad? https://reverb.com/item/8362228-paramount-style-a-5-string-resonator-banjo-1924-ser-2485-original-black-hard-shell-case
