Here's a Classic by John Hartford. John has played this tune in several different tunings. I remember John so well. He came to my Studio in NYC and asked me how I liked his new tune and that Chet Atkins said it would be a world hit. I said: well John I sure hope so. He teased me at every Bluegrass event he was playing at and asked me if I was picking any more Hits--so funny. He was a Fantastic Man to know and my wife Ellen adored him. He had a great sense of humor...Jack

Jack, thanks for posting this. There is so much to admire about John Hartford. No one was better at writing story songs. There are too many to list, but "The Burning of the Grand Republic" and "When the Guiding Star Came to Tell City" are often overlooked gems.
Wish I could have known him. -Dave

Hi Dave,
Yes, John did so much. You would have liked John in person very much. I've added Chet's version in the Newest Tabs section...I like your Clawhammer arrangement a lot....Jack

John could entertain a roomful of mummies and get 'em all dancing.
I especially liked his old-time work with his string band and his fiddle-banjo duets with Bob Carlin.
What a talent!
