“S” in SHAME could be Lake St. Clair between Erie and Huron ,, a “mini” Great Lake ;-)

[I suspect the self-deprecating element in what's known as F.N. humour plays a role as well.]    I've mentioned it previously, but the map shows it like it is .... the road just goes into the lake .... no warning signs, a small space to turn around [at least that's how it was when we toured there a couple of years back].

Apparently, Lake Ontario was named by indigenous people back in the mid-1600's...

...whereas Canada became a country in the mid-1800's.

The name was water, then the adjective was added: Great Water. A word from the Iroquois League members, maybe Huron, the waves are running west to east which makes the sunlight sparkle, then the visual totality.

Historic agreements like the Treaty of Canandaigua explicitly recognize Indigenous place names and boundaries that existed long before colonial governments were formed. Lake Ontario was named by the Huon/Wendat nation. No leader of modern day government has any right to rename it

I assumed that the name change was to indicate that the lake was spiraling into financial decoration and moral oblivion.

It’s a shared lake,, much of it is in Canadian territory. It’s a lot more than silly to us Canucks, wadr. We’re sick of the taunts, insults, and disrespect.
