Introduction since this my first post…I picked up the banjo about 20 years ago. Spent 3-4 years learning bluegrass on a 70’s Kay w/ resonator POS then I purchased a new Gold Star GF-85. I gave it up due to carpal tunnel issues and the style just never clicked with me. A little over a year ago I started playing Clawhammer and 2 Finger Style…I absolutely love it and plan to stick with it. I would rate my skill level as “advancing novice.” Now I would like to purchase a decent open back. I don’t mind buying above my skill level if it is a good investment.
My question…I am smitten by the Starr Limited Edition 11” Open Back (sorry, too new to post links). I really like the look, the materials, and the sound based on the one vid available. I know that Ogsbury does great work and the banjos look solid from afar. I would like to hear opinions from the experts here, especially anyone who has had one on their hands.

Hi. I have a Starr 12” cm. I am really pleased with it. I have done some mods etc. to get it the way I like. I had a full scoop put in. I put a lower bridge on it. I put a higher 5th string pip. Etc.
I'm no expert, but I did purchase an 11 inch open back banjo directly from Starr banjos early this summer. It's a bit different from the limited edition models featured on the company's website; it's a walnut banjo with a rolled brass tone ring and 25.5 inch scale, with a scoop. In spite of those differences, I can attest that it's a very nice quality instrument and certainly worth the price. So much so that I was kicking around purchasing another, with a wood rim, but I came onto a used OME Wizard and picked that up instead. I like the Starr banjo a whole lot. Good luck with your search.
