I'd like to tryout a bit of a weird setup with an old 19 fret tenor. I'm wanting to restring it with either nylgut or nylon to a plectrum tuning, any ideas of what gauges to use for either? Or how it would affect tone? I'm looking to reduce the 'punch' a bit that it has now with steel strings in an Irish tuning.

Thank you,

(It has a 23in scale length)

Baritone uke is a 19+ inch scale in DGBE, so if DGBE would suit then buy nylon one gauge smaller across the board.

However, I've just checked and standard baritone uke set use a 028 top E. So do standard classical guitar sets! So I'd buy a cheap set of classical guitar strings and try their DGBE. That will tell you if you need heavier strings, but I suspect maybe not
