Ok, another thought for those worried about damaging a possible future collectible to scoop it. Flush cut smaller saws available many places for around $20 or less. Pull the fret you wish to start your scoop at. Cut down through that fret slot to the neck wood.
Remove neck from pot and cut from fingerboard end to slot you already made. Now, you have a chunk of fingerboard with frets still intact, save one, and you put it and loose fret in ziplock bag in case pocket.
Should you decide later to reinstall merely glue and clamp back down, and glue the loose fret back in place and touch up the sides of fingerboard where you did surgery.
