Pours!
Just installed new thermostat on my relatively new water heater. Fingers crossed that it cures the problem on it tripping when it just decides to.
Next, just replaced dish washer after replacing the control board on the old (but not that old) unit and that not being the problem.. At least the company that I bought the board from took it back.
Now the microwave conked out …… ran but quit heating. I tore it down and checked the fuse and diode, both pretty inexpensive, both good so figured it was the magnetron (or whatever you call it) and by the time you replace it I figured I should buy a new one. Since, it fits in a space above the oven I bought the same GE model (actually the one that replaced mine ……. same dimensions). I kept the old trim kit, as the new ones are $209. The salesman called yesterday and informed me that my trim kit will not fit. Now I'm just waiting for the oven or refrigerator to die. Oh, last year replaced the heat pump! What’s next?
Same song ... different verse: stone breaks vehicle windshield ..... a week later a short, violent windstorm destroyed our camping canopy .... on that same camping trip I discovered a crack in the frame of our travel trailer* when we were about 1/2 way home ....
* a mobile welder worked his magic and we got home okay .... took it to a well-regarded machine shop to get a permanent repair .... he appears to have done an excellent $800 job of welding / fish plating ..... but, he disregarded my suggestion/instruction [complete with drawing] of where/how to straighten the frame first and welded it up with the fiberglass body still in contact with the frame rail. L*** f*** a duck!!
.... off to the big city tomorrow to see a medical specialist, even though I'm not hopeful he'll come up with anything worthwhile. ![]()
But, but, but .... I've been staining the deck this past week and it's lookin' good. [Had a grandson over this aft to do the jacking in the cramped quarters and re. level >> any closer and it'd be right on!
I’ve long since opted for the “replace” approach to dying appliances, etc. I have no patience any more for the kind of repairs I did in my relative youth. And I no longer have to choose the diy approach for economic reasons. But I will dump Drano into my newly backed-up kitchen sink before calling the plumber. At least it does not seem to be a whole-house issue. Next in line for the appliance failure list: the oven (ca. 38 yo) and the dishwasher (22 or so). I already have reasonably new fridge and cooktop. The a/c is two years old, so I’m not worried about unseasonable heat. Stay tuned.
Our toilet in the main bathroom is 114 years old. We have a special relationship, but it sure is fussy. After about a 2 year battle I finally once again have a toilet that does not run. Interesting what you can learn by actually putting a flashlight into dark places. Knock on wood! We shall see for how long, now. Brad
