This is one of the Asian made peg available on Temu, Aliexpress, Ebay etc. This is different than the other ones because it is not pinned. There is a cover on the housing that prevents the string shaft from dislodging. I have even tried tapping the string post backwards while turn in the knob in the hopes of knocking the cover out, but no success. It is most likely press fitted in.
Has anyone ever tried to remove this cover? I probably could by destroying it but what would I replace it with?

Get a friction peg. It’ll go left or right. Just get a quality one.

Wayne,
If you can find one & buy it , Stew-Mac made one for either side 5 Star I think.
But I have turned around the other ones just to see if it could be done, & yes it can but like Bob's mine was a little rough but can be done.

Thanks Tommy, I have seen where some are available, but the cost and shipping to NZ makes it rather prohibitve, expecially for a cheapy Asian banjo.
