Hello there. I'm not sure if this is the right place for this, but here goes. I have not yet found a store nearby that had a variety of banjos. I am about an hour from Portland, and I know there are a bunch o music stores there, but most don't have much in the way of banjos. I have just recently heard of Dusty strings in Seattle and plan to make a trip out there at some point, but I am really hoping there is something a bit closer. The main reason for this, is that I am planning a bluegrass banjo build. I am leaning towards building an archtop, but I have never got to play/handle one in person. I would really like to get an idea how they handle before forking over $200+ on a tone ring I don't actually end up wanting for my primary bluegrass banjo. So far all the music stores I have looked into have maybe a few banjos, but few of them even have a tone ring, and they all have flatheads if they do. I have seen a thread on this from many years ago, but many of these places have changed/closed since. I am also a bit of a collector (HOARDER) of banjos as many of you are I assume, and I love finding old "non playable" banjos I can work on as well if you got any places I might find stuff like that.
Anyhow. Anyone got any recommendations?
Thanks -Johnny
