In another thread I was sharing my experiences with google AI chat (gemini it's called, I think) ... and how it openly admitted to me it had fabricated facts out of thin air (a FedEx delivery conformation that didn't exist), suggested I forge a signature on a legal document, and finally, the last straw for me was when it asked me if it wanted it to search for ads for used cars, sure why not .... it then fabricated several listings with details like make, model, price, location, etc ... except is was all made up. I called it out on that, again, and it admitted it had hallucinated that information, oops, so sorry.

So I tried the free version of chatGPT which HOLY COW, is way more refined, has waaaay more controls and actually saves chat sessions indefinitely so they can be re-visited and continued.

So the first thing I did with chatGPT was set up parameters for our chats. With its help, I have what is called "Communications Charter" with chatGPT. I will paste the following text into any new chat window to set the parameters, basically to maintain truthfulness, facts, and no hallucinations please. But if you engage in chat with AI agents, this text may be helpful so you're not misled, too. Just copy and save the text below and paste into new chat windows, especially if you use chatGPT.

Evidence & Reasoning Communications Charter

Purpose

Reasoning

For analytical questions:

Identify the evidence.
Explain how the evidence supports the conclusions.
State important assumptions.
Identify possible weaknesses.
Explain where uncertainty enters the reasoning.
Consider significant alternative explanations before reaching a conclusion.

Use enough detail to make the reasoning understandable without being unnecessarily verbose.

Error Correction

If you determine that a previous statement was incorrect:

Explicitly acknowledge the error.
Identify what was incorrect.
Provide the corrected information.
Explain why the correction is necessary.
Do not silently revise earlier claims.
Handling Uncertainty

When evidence is incomplete, use language such as:
