What is the story behind the Baker tailpiece.? it seemed like Gibson used it for just a short time, maybe they were too expensive. The tailpiece is well made, totally unique and works well.

I found a few threads here on the hangout from a decade ago about the tailpiece. I have what appears to be a Baker on my parts banjo and I ordered a prucha presto this week to try out bc the baker doesnt accommodate a raised angle setup and makes my banjo sound really nasally, despite loosening the head tension.

The first RB 250 Mastertone I ever saw in the early 1960s was an arch top with factory Rossford Baker tailpiece on it.  It sounded terrific.

Here's one on eBay today:  https://www.ebay.com/itm/298491880839?mkevt=1&mkpid=0&emsid=e11021.m164380.l178263&mkcid=7&ch=osgood&euid=fb9166213adb4d07936b66951b30aacb&bu=43240927397&ut=RU&exe=0&ext=0&osub=-1%7E1&crd=20260709045934&segname=11021&recoId=298491880839&recoPos=2

The patent was good for only 7 years and your banjo was made during that time period. It's quite possible that the market dried up and blew away. It's quite similar to Grover and Waverly offerings during the same time period.
