I have several older Snuffy III bridges on my Gibson banjos and one of them started making odd string noises on the first and third strings. I changed the bridge and the noises disappeared.
Is it possible to rehabilitate the slots without lowering the action too much?

I would fill them with enony dust and thin cyanoacrylate, then recut the slots.

Fold a pieceof 220 sandpaper and "tease" it through the string slots to bring the bridge back to "new." A set up welding tip cleaners, available at most hardware stores, do the trick better and come in handy for other stuff too.
Do this before doing the crazy glue approach.

I’ll give that a try first. Much
Easier!
