I can't imagine a worse punishment than being in a room with that many fiddles all playing at once, not necessarily the same thing.

Something tells me , Sherry, that you’ve had negative experiences with fiddle players… ;-)

I love the rhythm and drive of Quebecois fiddle -- and the moreso when them b'ys get their boots a-stomping, sort of like seated John Hartfords. As with any kind of good music, it's all about the groove.

Natalie MacMaster doesn't take a back seat to anyone when it comes to foot-stompin'

I would FAR rather be in a room with that many fiddle players than that many dobro players. wink

As for the vid and the playing: Brilliant, no. But fun, yes And it does speak to a universal quality of this music.

Oh, by the way - Cape Breton is a magical place. So magical you might even find Bela Fleck providing the rhythm section for a fiddler as wonderful as McMaster.

Speaking of universiality...

Natalie is the niece of the legendary Cape Breton fiddler Buddy MacMaster.

This piece is played just about every time there is a fiddler at our weekly jams, here.
There are usually one or more French Fiddlers at our jams.
They play bluegrass tunes,too.
These folks made me learn fiddletunes if I wanted to play around here. Many more of them than bluegrassers around Port Clyde.

Don Roy and Erica Brown are great fiddlers from these parts.
Playing at contra dances helped me learn some of these tunes.
It's fun to be in a 20 piece band playing these tunes as many times through as needed to reach the end of the dance.

If I didn't know the tune coming in I had a pretty good handle on it after playing it 20 times through.
Wood Chopper's Reel is a fun tune in the key of G.
