and so converted to an open back?

What did you think? What do you think?

No problem? Easy to do? Looks good? Anything to consider? Got any photos? How did you make it fit in case w/o resonator? Etc.

Pretty nice little mini banjo?

Thanks.

I've never tried it but, it has a shoe and plate configuration. It wouldn't be that hard to do. Just take the nuts off the brackets and slide the plate off, then put the bracket nuts back on. If you like it, it will work fine. If you don't like it, it would be simple to put back together.

It's easy to remove, just like any other banjo I've seen. It has the usual four thumb screws. I think it looks fine with the resonator off but it does have a typical bluegrass banjo flange so it's not going to look exactly like an old-time style open-back banjo. It doesn't sit well in your lap with the resonator off though because that leaves just the flange for it to rest on.

As for sound, it's not bad but as expected, the tone is a little thinner and there's a little less volume.

It sits snug in the case with the resonator off but my case has always been a little bit unusually tight. With the resonator on, you have to push it into the space.

Sorry, I don't have any photos. Mine is at a shop on consignment right now. Nothing really wrong with it but it seems to go out of tune even more than a regular banjo (which is saying a lot!) and the action is higher than I'd like. In the right hands, maybe those two things could be corrected.

Thanks to those who responded to this posting. I went ahead and bought a used Aaron Keim (beansprout) mini banjo that was on eBay. So I’m good. Thanks. Wish i knew how to close or delete these posts when I’m done?

In due course it will drift off the page and be lost to the sands of time.

Skip’s right. As a matter of policy BHO does not close out threads; rather it lets them die off.
