Played on my trusty Baldwin 2SR that I’ve had since I was about twenty.
I don’t usually stray far from standard tuning, but in this case minor tuning helped get the right flavor. Fm tuning in this case.

I think you got that right Tom, it kinda hints at Celtic and old-time but it never comes down hard on either one. Maybe some of the early settlers to this country would go through a similar process, but we'll never know for sure.

Originally posted by Bill RogersA great tune, however you characterize it. It strikes me that it’s a banjo tune, not a fiddle tune, nor jazz or pop (all of which Laurence is adept at). Rather , it simply fits the nature of the banjo, and would work as well in clawhammer. Well done, Laurence; thank you.
Thanks Bill
I did want this to sound like a tune made for banjo so I'm glad that came across. A low-tuned archtop can give you more of that "raw" banjo sound and coupled with more sustain and the ability to do string bends on the first or second fret, it adds up to a character all its own.

Originally posted by JanetBJune bugs are about as welcome as most bugs, so giving it a minor tuning flavor is deserved. Your June Bug here sounds victorious -- it must have come out after a rainy day to party. At least, ours do.
Your style reminds me of Jim Reed's playing. That's a compliment, as you know.
I miss Jim. I always looked forward to whatever he was going to pull out of a hat next. Gone but not forgotten.
