I own resurrected relics Maryville TN . I’ve built a lot of master clones. Someone brought this in to me today. Very cool Maby I’ll get it playing? I dunno if I wanna invest the time. It’s so cool does anyone know a possible maker or any info?

The Eagle shoes were seen regularly on lower grade banjos from 1880's to about 1900. Common opinion is most were made by JH Buckbee (look for JHB stamp on the neck), But there were other makers that used those shoes, so I would call it probabaly New York school. An inexpensive banjo that could become a great sounding fretless banjo.

So u think it would have been fret less. What sorta strings steel strings with tension pegs? I think I’ve ordered hardware from u Maby Gotoh tuners with amber buttons . I think I’ve ordered hardware several times but it’s been a while before covid. I’ve never stretched a skin head Maby eventually I’ll make this thing playable. I don’t claw hammer though

I have seen both fretted and fretless banjos using a similar rim with eagle brackets. Likely the tuners were violin style tapered wood pegs, but Champion tuners have been spotted on similar banjos made after May 8, 1888, the patent date on old Champion tuners.

As Bob said, eagle brackets/shoes were put on banjos by a lot of different banjo sellers & makers (and sold individually in catalogs), so their presence isn't really diagnostic of any particular maker or seller. Some of the older banjos had tapered square nuts on the j-hooks....... yours has hexagonal nuts, but hooks & nuts may be changed over the lifetime of a banjo. Some photos and old catalog clips at the link.

Man that’s awsome thank u for sending that, me and my wife enjoyed looking at everything. She wants me to build it. The rim has a good bow but I think I can just build the lows up using CA glue and wood dust. Level it up. I’ll try and build it very much original. I’ve never stretched a skin. I’m tempted to fret and inlay a fancy finger board. I need to figure out the traditional bridge. I don’t know if I wanna use friction pegs or Maby those steel tension pegs. I need to study the neck rod . I guess I have to set it right and it’s not adjustable or I thought it may end slightly short and be adjustable using a screw and the tail bracket. ? I’m use to mastertones I’ll keep studying and do it a little at a time.

I think I’ll start by stretching the skin head . eBay has a lot of head skins. Goat mostly, thickness does it make a huge difference? Has anyone experience with various thicknesses. I’d imagine thinner is better but more likely to bust. Many of the skins are sold for banjo/ drum . I guess it’s not something I may have a lot of control over. Head is about 10-7/8” so I’ll order a 13.5”
