I came across a riley-baker perfected banjo. It is good shape for its age. It needs to be skinned and strings, etc. I would like to get ride of it but do not know value or where to do it at. Any advice would greatly appreciated.

Post a lot of photos of every part that you can. You will have to add pictures several times but get close up pictures of the side of the body (pot), the headstock, tuners, side of the neck, connection to the body and the rod that goes through the pot. This will help see what you have, what it needs and what it is worth.

I doubt it has a lot of value, except maybe to a zither-banjo collector. I’ll take a guess at $350; someone will probably suggest more. It all depends on the demand, and I don’t see much for this instrument.

It is worth a lot more then 350. I have been offered over 1000.00.

Prices in the UK were around £250 - £350. The last one I saw for sale here in the UK was at a Yorkshire auction in March this year and that sold for £400 plus fees. That's pretty expensive for a zither in the UK.

Yeah, take this offer before they get wise.

I've seen them sell for a lot more than $350 once or twice, but that's not really the established market. They are odd enough that they have some appeal to non-banjo collectors, in part because if the aluminum construction, but you have to get lucky and find the right person.

A Google search of UK auction listings shows they regularly sell in the $250-$400 range. I'd take the $1000.

I will just keep it. It was an auction that one sold for that much. I only found one. I also found one that sould for roughly 4000.00 but you failed to mention that one.

The first page of Google has auction sales with the following hammer prices, within the last few years, in the UK:

£400
£240
£190
£200

They are less common in the states, so perhaps will bring more money here.

The screws in the F/board are unusual.

Stephen John Prior considering how wonky/sloppy they are, they were no doubt added later to keep the fingerboard from falling off.

So… condition strike.

Agreed. I'm not sure how these fingerboards were attached originally, but those screws appear to be someone's attempt to bolster the original system.

I don't think there is really a market for that banjo here in the states except as a curiosity or wall hanger. I think the price estimates given here are about right ...... maybe even a tad optimistic.
