I received such a surprise for Easter. My uncle had his 80th birthday and he is a beyond hobbyist woodworker with a giant Felder saw, and cnc system and many other tools. But! He has a massive wood collection. When he saw photos of the guitars I’ve been making for fun he gave me two huge pieces of pre ban Brazilian rosewood with papers for their harvesting in Honduras. They are giant and he says it would be difficult to find boards like this. One is 8 foot by 1 x 8 and one is 8 foot by 2 x 6. I’m concerned my skills are not up to their use so I’m going to sit on them for a while before decide what to do with them.

I've collected BRW for many years. Once, I was looking through the wood rack and found a back/sides guitar set, dark brown, perfectly quartered and clear grain. It was at the bottom of a stack of wood and I didn't even remember having it. The dollar figure chalked on it indicated that I had had it for a long time, and I realized that I must have put it away until I felt like I was a guitar builder worthy of such wood. Then I thought of my age and the years I have left and realized I would never feel worthy of such wood... I started the guitar that very day!

Ha. Yes that’s true. But I’d still like to build a few more pallet and junk wood ones so that I don’t ruin wood like this.

BTW, I have bought old (very old) BRW boards before and had good luck sawing guitar sets from them. Now that I have built more guitars and feel more comfortable with my abilities, I've even started to use wood like this (sawed from a board):

That's beautiful.  My banjo work to date has just been making stave rims and that's not really to make banjos. It's just to test other things.  Maybe someday.  My guitars are really just for giveaways as jokes.  My morning workout crew does middle finger flipoffs to each other all day for no real reason and at our annual white elephant gift exchange I made a telecaster with middle finger motif.
