I heard,,, my brother messaged me earlier today. A few of us drove down to Florida in 1971 and wore out his album on an 8 track tape. A wonderful wordsmith and musical artist. RIP.

He was one of Dave's favorites. I still have a bunch of his LPs ... somewhere. I'll hunt them up and hear him sing again in memorium.

I didn't know he was a Gold Glove boxer.

The man had a great and action-packed life...he was an Army Ranger and helicopter pilot, and a Rhodes scholar too.
Talking about the 5 greatest songwriters in the past 70 years or so, waddya think? Of the top of my head -
Lightfoot, Kristofferson, Jimmy Webb, Dylan, Hank Williams (honourable mention goes to Don Gibson)

I saw him play when I was still in Michigan back in the late ‘70’s. Rita Coolidge came out and sang harmonies on a few songs. RIP.
Here's a photo of a young Kris Kristofferson as a soldier. The man lived an incredibly varied and interesting life.
Saw him at the Riverboat, Toronto, in April '72. I had his first album, Kristofferson. The Riverboat seemed an appropriate venue - intimate (also, considering the band was stoned, laid back).
Every so often the music world throws us a polymath - in this case, songwriter, actor, pilot, athlete, scholar.

He played here in Adelaide Australia in 2019, with Merle Haggards band The Strangers backing him. Wish I hadve gone.
