Gittin' it done in the Netherlands!
I already thought I was seeing a familiar face. ![]()
Jerry Gout can safely be considered the first Dutchman to come up with a fully developed, convincing Scruggs style banjo as early as the mid 1960-ies.
(there were others before him, but they never made it beyond a more primitive, Stanley style approach)
He's the only one I know here who can seamlessly switch from Scruggs to frailing and back.
From the time we played together in 'Skyland' - a Staghorn and a RB-1 :

As no one else has posted anything from the UK yet,I think a good clip would be to show an up and coming bunch of youngsters in the band Flats and Sharps, including talented banjo player Kirk Bowman. These lads are all 17-18 years old and are full of fun as well as very entertaining musicians!

Sorry Mate,
Last time I looked, Northern Ireland is in the UK. BTW, so is Scotland and Wales...
Cya!
Bob
Bluegrass is one of America's finest exports. When folks speak Bluegrass, that's all the language they need. I've had such tremendous experiences helping get it done in Russia where until a couple of years ago, almost nobody had really heard it played here. Thanks dmiller for posting that video with Pete Wernick. Here's another one from 2011:

Hello Bob,
My apologies. David Miller captioned the clip as "Ireland" which to me denotes the Republic. I didn't actually watch that particular clip or I would have realised it was in Norn Iron. As I can no longer edit my post, please take it to read "England" or even "Cornwall" if you wish.
Not sure why the snide comment re: Scotland & Wales, as pior to my post there were no posts about Scotland or Wales either, hence my belief (since I read dmiller's post as referring to Republic of Ireland) that nothing with reference to the UK had yet been posted.
Regards
Maria

Not meant to be snide but for those on this side of the pond who a re geographically challenged There is a tendency to use UK and England interchangeably. An in fact, we should be known as United Statians as" Americans" technically encompasses the entire hemisphere.
And how many from the US know what a toad in the hole is??!
Cya!

Hey - - My apologies to all if my "country labeling" of a previous post was erroneous.

Fair enough Bob, I assumed you were "talking" to me on the matter of Wales and Scotland. Scotland might not be part of the UK for much longer though.... but let's not go there! I'll probably get complaints from Cornish nationalists too.
Sorry for the thread drift everyone.

There's more where that came from.... Two Americans and two Dutchies.
From L to R: Jay Ellingwood, Patrick Russel, Jan Pals & yours truly.
We never played together before and I haven't done trad. Bluegrass in ages neither, but we had fun anyway.....
Videos were shot by Peter Noorman, who's a real Bluegrass Promotor, here in the NE. Venue was his Northern Picking 2010

Huh? Claiming "United Statians" might bother our neighbor to the south whose name includes the notion of United States as well... The United Mexican States or Estados Unidos Mexicanos.
