More About Me

Pete Rivard began playing banjo in college in 1972. His playing soon eclipsed his academics, and he dropped out to pursue a career as a performing musician. He has played professionally in Pennsylvania, Texas and Minnesota over the past three decades.

Pete has been teaching banjo at Brickhouse Music in River Falls, WI since 1998 and has helped over 100 students begin their banjo exploration and improve their chops. He teaches ukulele as well.

Pete teaches 3-finger Scruggs, melodic and single string with a strong emphasis on rhythm, back-up and improvising.

I'm now teaching Tue & Wed evenings and have a few openings. Brickhouse Music rents banjos to beginner students to make it easier to try out the idea of playing the banjo. It is also a certified Deering Banjos dealer. - privard

I record important points during lessons and email my students mp3s so they can listen as many times as they need to as they learn the particular exercise. - privard

I record rhythm tracks on banjo and uke for my students to play along with. - privard

I'll be presenting a banjo clinic at Brickhouse Music in River Falls, currently scheduled for 10 am Saturday, April 6th, as part of the town's annual Roots and Bluegrass Music Festival. I'm considering a ukulele clinic immediately following. - privard

Hi Pete, Recently started banjo lessons here in VT and just found out from my wife,Ginny, after spending the nite with her sister Jody and Ken in Boston that you are a famous Bluegrass player! Ain’t that somethin!! Richard Savignano - richardsavignano

Richard,

Famous is stretching it beyond the break point. I'm an actual luminary in the graphic communications universe, and one of the least known practicing banjoists in the Upper Midwest. I mean, I'm no slouch. I do teach banjo one evening a week to keep my instructor credentials. And I do have a band, but we only gig 8 or 10 times a year.

I hope you ate well at Jody and Ken's.

Regards,

Pete Rivard
