More About Me
I started playing banjo and guitar in 1973. I studied under a few good players, most notable Don Ridgeway. I taught at Jensen's music in Santa Barbara California for two years, and Castle music at that time as well. I stopped teaching except rarely on weekends as I had a tree business and a young family to take care of, not necessarily in that order.
I also taught at Artichoke for around three years, in the early oughts. All that time though, I had a student or two on the side, and played in bands, on banjo guitar and bass guitar. I also teach harmonica. I have a skype account that makes it easy and also can scan tab. Although I think tab is over rated.
Ypu want to play banjo or play tab? I have learned from Mark Petteys, who recently passed away. I recommend his tab book. I also studied with Peter Schwimmer. He is about the best teacher I have had, and as far as I know he is available, so why would you choose me?
Basically, I am a born coach. I have taught banjo, but also diverse things like creative writing and how to work in an aerial lift around enrgized conductors; a life and death sort of class. I teach chainsaw classes regularly, and also teach pruning. I look to you to find out what you need, and am good at spotting roadblocks we all have; unless they are mine in which case I am equally adept at ignoring those.
I like money and all, but if you are not going to practice regularly, at least a half hour a day? lets not bother. Find a teacher who is a part time therapist/bartender /listener to tales of woe for that sort of stuff. johnobanjoist is the skype address.
