More About Me
I have been playing, performing, and teaching guitar, 5-string banjo, and mandolin to adults for more than 30 years. I graduated from the Musician’s Institute in Los Angles in the early 1980s, where I was privileged to study with guitar greats Howard Roberts, Robben Ford, Joe Pass, Frank Gambale, and others.
Although I am no longer a full-time musician – I’m now a licensed psychologist, specializing in neuropsychology – I am still enamored with music. My musical interests are broad, so I play and teach many styles including jazz, blues, bluegrass, country, folk, Celtic, Klezmer and other types of ‘ethnic’ music.
I offer state-of-the-art instruction that features:
* Systems to gain mastery of the fingerboard
* Accelerated learning methods
* Low-stress / have fun focus
* Practical music theory for improvisation
* Use of music-notation software to produce high quality lesson documents
Learning to play an instrument takes a desire to learn, consistency, practice, and patience. And having fun is an essential element – if you’re not smiling a lot, something is missing! Many styles of music are best enjoyed by learning to jam; Bluegrass, Gypsy Jazz, etc. are the most fun, and the best learned, when you play them with others.
I offer weekly one-on-one full-hour lessons in a comfortable instruction studio in Ashland, and provide customized learning plans based on your individual musical interest, abilities, and goals.
With more than 30 years of music-instruction experience, I can help you create a learning program that will work for you.
