More About Me

I am a career professional musician performing, recording, and teaching since 1978.
I have played and/or recorded with David Grisman, Stuart Duncan, Alison Brown, Peter Rowan, Joan Baez, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, Victor Wooten, Dave Matthews Band and also worked for 20 years in LA as a studio musician and producer.
Beginning in 1993, I began working as a film composer writing in many diverse styles including orchestral.
In 2005, I released a CD of all original classical music for the 5-string banjo entitled Milagros.
In 2007, I released a CD of Indian music with a world renowned sarod player.
In 2013, I released a CD of original vocal music ranging from bluegrass to singer-songwriter to world, with some very interesting banjo parts.
I enjoy playing a diverse and progressive range of styles on the banjo and was hired as the "cutting edge" instructor at The California Banjo Gathering alongside Bill Keith and Sammy Shelor.
Among these styles are classical, jazz, funk, blues, ethnic & world, pop, as well as bluegrass.
In 2020, I released an album (digital download & streaming, CD, LP) of my original classical music recorded on banjo with the 82-piece Prague Metropolitan Orchestra.
In addition to teaching in-person in the SF Bay area, I have several hundred hours of successful teaching online using Skype.

I have had the pleasure to be having Tim as my teacher over skype over the period of 2 months. I tried different teachers before him but Tim is the best by far. He is an amazing teacher who really looks at the student's playing and helps them improve. It was obvious to me when I started working with him how experienced he was as a teacher. He is also a very professional banjo player with a wider perspective on the banjo than I've ever seen anyone have. He's a great guy most of all though, and I highly recommend his lessons if you want a high quality experience and are willing to pay a little extra for it. - alexmedkex
