More About Me

My Name is Johnpaul Humphrey, and I have been playing banjo for a bit now.
I had a really great teacher, and have branched out into many different Genres.
You can find samples of my playing listed below, as well as on YouTube (See my profile for a link)
I am also open to teaching in Kyrgyz (though I need to build up my vocabulary a little bit first) but y'all are probably native English speakers anyway.

Do you have a banjo and need help getting started?
For $10.00/hr I can teach you banjo over Zoom, Tox, Google Hangouts, or another platform. (Skype is out however.) Contact me for more.
I play five string "Scruggs-style" "three finger" style banjo. Some of my playing can be heard on soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/user-705681449-57887922
I have work in the evenings, so would not be available then.
Also, we have a small child in the house that may make noise from time to time.
Due to family COVID concerns, I cannot teach banjo face to face at this time, only virtually. I can teach you how to:
* play basic 5 string banjo songs like Old Joe Clark and Foggy Mountain Breakdown.
* play folk songs from several traditions such as Celtic, Kurdish, Swedish and Russian.
* play other genres of music, but Rock and Rap are out. (Some of the principles apply to them too, however.)
* Teach you chords, chords, and more chords and basic backup.
* Teach you Music Theory and Banjo Theory.
* How to read basic tab.
* How to play by Ear

I do not do "mechanical" lessons. While there may be a bit of "Put your finger here, now pluck the second string from the top" my focus is not on teaching you how to play a particular song a particular way, but rather how to play any song any way that feels fun. It is good to know a few standards, but it is also good to be able to branch out any direction you feel like. If you have questions feel free to contact me. I am also open to teaching people from other places, but Timezones may complicate things.
