More About Me

Old-Time Clawhammer Banjo Lessons:

Learn to play old-time banjo as taught by professional musician, composer and songwriter Matt Larson. I have played banjo for 6 years and have attended workshops with Adam Hurt, Paul Brown and John Hermann. I have been playing music altogether for 13 years and have performed throughout the country as a songwriter and musician. As a composer I have made music for several theatre companies, including In The Heart Of The Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre. I also led the Banjo Brigade in the 2009 May Day Parade!

Learn:
-proper techniques and maintenance (changing strings, tuning, holding the banjo, the clawhammer technique, tightening the head, etc.)
-old-time theory
-playing by ear with emotion and creativity
-round peak style and others
-playing songs and fiddle tunes and keeping time (rhythm)
-fretless and fretted styles

I have a great love for music and I teach with energy, care and attention to detail. I teach music lessons from my home in South Minneapolis. It is a safe community environment to learn in. I also offer skype lessons.

Cost: Lesson fees are $20 per half-hour lesson or $35 per hour lesson.

I have several slots open throughout the week. Please contact me with any questions. I look forward to hearing from you!

"Matt Larson's lovely live original string accompaniment conjures a placid ambience that honors [Thich Nhat] Hanh's practice of Engaged Buddhism, which replaces ego with active love and mindfulness." --John Townsend MINNEAPOLIS STAR TRIBUNE of A Path Home at In The Heart Of The Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre
