More About Me
The polyrhythmic heat and funk of Evie Ladin's clawhammer banjo, resonant voice, real stories and rhythmic dance - have been heard from A Prairie Home Companion to Celtic Connections, Lincoln Center to Hardly Strictly Bluegrass. Known as a driving force behind San Francisco's Stairwell Sisters, Evie's solo debut Float Downstream (2010) was produced by Mike Marshall and Keith Terry. Sing Out! magazine reports "Solid song craft performed wonderfully end to end...Very strongly recommended."
Evie teaches privately in Oakland, CA, by Skype anywhere, online at Peghead Nation, group lessons at the Freight & Salvage in Berkeley and at music camps across the US. Topics include Rank Beginner, Playing & Singing, Repertoire, and Making the Leap - from playing by rote or tab to playing what you hear - most useful for getting into jam sessions.
I took some lessons from Evie a couple years ago and she was just great. Patient with my imperfections and was able to focus in on what areas I needed to work on. Easy going and complimentary on my triumphs and gentle on my imperfections ....which are many! Great singing voice and a super step dancer too! See her live if you can.
